Music makes the world go round
What was your greatest find ......?

I'm sure every collector can relate to this..........
You go past a thrift shop/second hand record store/garage sale/trash & treasure market (or wherever your hounddog nose sniffs out the smell of vinyl) - nothing better to do with your time, so why not kill 30 minutes or so and take a look....

There's a small pile of vinyl records jammed between a few books and at first look they're the same old junk you always see (granny's castoffs, Mario Lanza sings about drunken princes etc.). You're just about to put them down with disgust when suddenly a familiar record label / cover catches your eye - your first thought is, it's going to be interesting to me, but probably not the one I've been searching for since forever - but your blood suddenly races when you realise what you're holding is worth all the tea in China to you - don't get your hopes up too soon, though - you'll look at the condition next and find it looks like it's been laser etched (but not with a laser, more like a razor) ....

You hold your breath and take a careful look at the condition - absolute mint!!!!

Drinks all round! You feel like you've just fallen in love again (if only for an hour or two).

Does the above ramblings remind you of some earth shattering find?
Tell me all about it, true collectors love to brag.....

Did you just recently add me?? How did you find me? Just curious! Very cool journal. I love vinyl.

Anyways - My favorite find lately? A charlie pride record at a good will store. It was in such good condition too. Nothing amazing, but I love classic country and i find it so hard to find (I am such a small town and haven't taken the time to search outside of it since I am so busy w/school).

Hi, thanks for your comments regarding favourite vinyl finds. Good country vinyls are hard to come across here too, so I sympathise.

How did I find you? It must have been while searching/browsing for other vinyl enthusiasts or I came across you in one of the communities.

Hi I am glad to find you as we have just added each other. I noticed you are a fan of JO'K. He's one of my favorites too.
My best find, well that's hard to say, I gues it would have to be an old Roy Brown LP with his autograph on it. I find some really good stuff once in a while but I don't buy as much as I'd like to.

Thanx for the response, M.T.G.
Yeh, JO'K (Johnny O'Keefe to the uninitiated) is certainly a legend these days (and deservedly so). Do you mean Ray Brown (& the Whispers)? A Signed LP, lucky you !

You know, Roy Brown, who did a version of "Good Rockin Tonight" and "Butcher Pete"

Oh, sorry. You're talking about the rock/blues artist (he also did "Let the four winds blow"). Even better!
I just saw J'OK and automatically thought Aussie 60s artists. You must have felt like you'd just won the lottery when you found that one....

Hi Magmachan,

I did a search on LJ for people into music particularly vintage stuff. Thought you might be an interesting person to get in touch with....

i found a copy of the ramsey lewis trio's in crowd, nm, at a record shop for $3. the cool thing is that it is the argo LP-757... and as we all know... argo had to change it's name before the release of the in crowd and only so many escaped with the argo lable still on it. so i was very pleased.

i saw you added me too.

Wow, it's phenomenal to be the right person in the right place at the right time.... I collected Australian pressings (mainly 45s) and I've never seen an Aussie 7" of "Hang On Sloopy" by Ramsey Lewis. But there's always tomorrow....
